Class Description: Fionnuala Doyle Wade will teach an open level dynamic contemporary class, drawing from her own training in modern (Limón, Graham, and Laban), contemporary release techniques, ballet, and Yoga. This class is best suited to those with some movement experience, options and modifications will be given throughout the class.
Bio: Fionnuala Doyle Wade is a dance artist from Seattle, and currently based in Galway city. She trained in modern and ballet in the pre-professional division of Cornish College of the Arts. Since moving to Ireland in 2014, she has performed work by choreographers such as Maria Nilsson Waller, Laura Murphy, Minte Wolde, and Eoin MacDonncha, and has been mentored by choreographers Oona Doherty and Lucia Kickham. Her own work has been shown through Noise Moves Youth Dance Festival, Dancer From the Dance Festival, and Galway Dance Project’s evening of dance, ‘Momentum’. She has been a recipient of Arts Council Funding, and residencies through Dance Ireland, Shawbrook, and Galway Dance Project. In 2023, she took part in the Druid Theatre Artist Development program, FUEL, as well as Dance Limerick’s Step Up Dance Project. She has worked in a diverse number of settings & communities within the arts world including: dance in traditional & site specific contexts, theatre, film, young people, & people with additional needs. She has a deep curiosity about the potential for dance to communicate what written & oral language cannot & its ability to connect people from different walks of life.
Residency details: During her GD residency Fionnuala will be taking time & space to explore a collaborative approach to making dance with live music while beginning to develop a new idea alongside collaborators Peadar-Tom Mercier (Musician), Roberta Ceginskaite (Dancer), Diarmuid Armstrong (Dancer), & Becky Ni Eallaithe (Musician & Dancer). The work is centred around the idea that movement & sound developed interdependently prior to oral & written language. The process will use these art forms as the main method of communication, collaboration & creation between these dynamic artists. The meaning, emotion & stories of the work will form & evolve during the creative process. The intention being to develop a joyous, energetic, & technical exploration of highly physical dance & live music, representing a collaborative & experimental way of making dance. This period of research is supported by an Arts Council Bursary, Galway Dance, & Mick Lally theatre.
