Galway Dance’s International Residency Initiative Scheme 2025

in partnership with Glasgow Life & Theatre Gu Leòr.

Galway Dance has secured funding from the International Residency Initiative Scheme from the Arts Council to work in partnership with Glasgow Life and Theatre Gu Leòr to bring 4 artists together into a studio (2 based in Ireland and 2 based in Scotland). Dance artist Rob Heaslip will facilitate the studio time, creating a space for artists to explore and exchange.

The funding will support artist fees (€800pw), travel, accommodation and a per-diem for each selected artist to travel to and work in Galway and Glasgow, for 2 weeks in each city during spring/summer 2025.

The theme of the exchange is how intangible cultural heritage can inspire, expand and abstract a contemporary creative practice. Artists of all cultural backgrounds are invited to apply.

As part of the selection process the panel will prioritise artists whose practice incorporates one or more of the following areas of Intangible Cultural Heritage: languages, music, dance and rituals. We welcome applications from artists with a background in Scots Gaelic and the Irish language.

Artists who work outside of dance are welcome to apply. We ask that these artists articulate how their artform would support the dance-centric process within the studio environment.

We especially welcome applications from BPOC, artists with disabilities, migrants who call Ireland and Scotland home, and the LGBTQ+ community.

As part of the project’s presence in each country, the schedule includes a 1-day symposium to share and address themes of the project, introduce the artists and their work, and create a sector discussion surrounding the relationship of traditional arts within contemporary performance artists, and if/how audience tastes are changing.

Applicants must be available for all dates:

Galway City: March 24th – April 5th. Symposium will take place Saturday Apr. 5th at Galway Dance studio.

Glasgow City: April 28th – May 11th. Symposium will take place Saturday May 11th.

Closing date January 17th 2025

Applicants will be notified by Jan 24th 2025
